Ain’t dead yet…

Filed under News and Announcements • Written by Trent @ 9:30 am

Hey all.

I’ve just been looking back at my pitiful posting schedule over the last month or two. Sorry about that. Been really busy. Haven’t done my favourites for last year, haven’t done “how did I miss that?” Haven’t posted a whole lot.

I am around, and will hopefully be playing catchup.

Thanks. In the meantime, to keep you occupied, here’s a photo of Fashion Photographer Chuck Arlund and his really big lens.

Photos For Food Fundraiser Tumbler Ridge

While it might not look like it yet, Christmas is fast approaching. And one of the staples of the Christmas season, alongside trees and presents and lights and sleighbells in the snow is charity.
Christmas is a time where we stop and recognize the less fortunate people in our community, in our country, and across the world. More importantly, it’s a time when we do something about it: Operation Christmas Child. The Christmas Seal Campaign. And of course, the Christmas Food Drive here in Tumbler Ridge headed by the Family Assistance Program.

Last year we started our first Photos for Food Fundraiser to support this amazing cause. This year on November 12-14, Eye For Detail Photography will be repeating this event, and you can help: all you have to do is say cheese. For a minimum $30 cash donation, plus a non-perishable food donation, you can help support the Tumbler Ridge Family Assistance Program. As a thank you, Eye For Detail will provide you with a complimentary mini photo session, plus a free 8X10 print. Call 250-219-8215 or email support@eyefordetailphotos.com. (If you read the article in the paper recently, please note that the size of the free print was incorrect! It will be an 8X10.)

Fall Family Portrait Card Special

Filed under News and Announcements • Written by colette @ 10:06 am

Yes, I know. It is September. But that doesn’t mean it’s too early to start thinking about Christmas. Winter comes early up north, and fall happens fast! So we blend the two in a one hour portrait session with 5X7 bifolded customized Christmas cards made from your favourite images. If you want to have these beautiful cares ready and in the mail in time for Christmas, now is the time to start thinking about getting your family portraits done.

And, as a way of encouraging our favouritest people in the world (that would be you, dear reader) to get your Christmas Portraits done in time for Christmas, we’re offering a special between now and Halloween.

Book an hour long studio session and get 25 custom designed christmas cards with envelopes for $150. Or, book a World is Our Studio session and get 25 custom cards included for $175. (Outdoor session include one rescheduling if weather doesn’t cooperate.)

Celebrating the Art of Photography

Filed under News and Announcements • Written by colette @ 4:04 pm

Eye for Detail Photography is going to be at the Where Art Thou? event on Tuesday, Sept. 7th from 3-9pm, at the Tumbler Ridge Community Centre. This is a wonderful event hosted by the Tumbler Ridge Arts Council where the community can come out and enjoy the works and skills and even some classes with the local art community of Tumbler Ridge. We invite you to join us there to celebrate art in all it’s forms!

We are offering a free five minute Facebook Profile Portraits for anyone who wants to freshen up their facebook profile picture with a professional portrait. We are also going to be doing a few short seminars on how to take better photographs, also free. If you’ve always wanted to know how to take a better self portrait, or why your pictures just aren’t turning out, you’ll want to show up. You can find us in Room 4.

Everyone participating in the seminars and photo sessions will have their name go into a draw for an hour long studio session… yes that’s right, more FREE stuff!

Come out, meet us, learn something, get free stuff. It’s that simple.

The nerd in me just snorted

Filed under News and Announcements • Written by Trent @ 10:09 pm

It was completely involuntary, I assure you, and I quelled the urge to push my (haven’t been taped up for years, thank you very much) glasses up with my middle finger in a complete throwback to a childhood spent breaking into the school’s computer lab (well, calling it a lab is probably overstating it, as there were only three computers back then, an no IP Addresses as far as the eye could see. And we had to dial-up using a 1200 baud modem. To a BBS, people. You young pups these days just don’t appreciate how good you got it. Now get off my virtual cyberlawn, you punks!) and playing around on them until the janitor kicked me out.

Anyway, here’s why:

Oh, come on. That’s funny. David, back me up here….

That’s from XKCD, one of the few webcomics I read faithfully. Click on the comic to see more. Do note the warning on the bottom, though.

A wedding I photographed in Banff is in Wedding Obsession

Filed under News and Announcements • Written by Trent @ 4:41 pm

Yes, it’s true, though I suppose that’s a bit of an oversell. I was second photographer for Leanne and Jordan’s wedding in Banff last year. Mark over at Unique Images was the primary shooter, and those are all his images you see over at Wedding Obsession. Still, they’re some of his best images (which is an impressive statement, considering the quality of images that he always produces). I held the lights (or, in the case of the ring shot, held the ring) for a number of these shots, so I lay some claim to them, even if it’s sort of a “I was there when”.

I’ve got a few shots from this wedding that I was going to put up onto the blog sometime soon. They’re not comparable, but there’s a couple that are pretty good. Keep watching this space….

Problem Solved! Troubleshooting

Filed under News and Announcements • Written by Trent @ 8:20 pm

WOOT!

We’re back up and running.

Thanks for your patience. And thanks to Billy at superwebhost.com for figuring out what was the problem.

Hey all.

So, somewhere in the past few days, something has gone horribly wrong.

One piece of technology is not talking to another piece of technology.

This means that none of the images on my website are showing up.

Whoops.

To make matters worse, there are about ten different pieces of technology all talking to one another and it could be any or all of them (I really hope it’s not all of them.

So as you look around the site, enjoy the pretty pink boxes.

The movies are still playing though.

Sorry for the trouble; I’ll fix it as quickly as I can.

New Backdrops, take one

Filed under News and Announcements • Written by Trent @ 3:47 pm

So, I know that we’re pushing the business towards outdoor portraits, but that isn’t always possible. Rather than stick with just the plain old black white and grey backdrops (which are simple and effective, but can also be boring), we’ve added in a whack of new background options, which I will be slowly trying out over the next few weeks.

Over at the GRADitude site, I’ve got a dozen shots of Danielle, rocking one of these new backdrops. Check them out, won’t you?

Here is a sample shot.

I don’t normally post links, but I thought this was hilarious.
