Kim and Matt Part I: Waterfalls

For nearly two months we played telephone and email tag, trying to find a half decent time to get out and do some engagement photos. Finally I said to Kim “I can’t promise you perfect weather. I can promise you that I will work with whatever is there and make some cool looking shots. We’ve been focusing perhaps a bit too much on weather, and not enough on the fact that we’re trying to capture a relationship here. Yes, a dramatic background will make the photos more impressive, but if we can get you two to connect, to interact, to be yourselves, the photos can’t help but be great, because we’ve captured the essence of you two.”

So when we set out for Backcock Falls in the rain, spirits were high. Mud on the white dress didn’t diminish the optimism. Okay, the rain on the lens ruined a couple good shots, and I was a bit worried about my flash with all the wetness falling from the sky, but everything turned out well. And once we climbed up from the base of the falls, the weather got drier, and the sun even began to peak out.

Mix sun and rain and you have a perfect teaser for part two. In the meantime, here’s some shots from the start of the session.

Just downloading images from the weekend’s not-quite wedding. Haven’t got very far at all. In fact, this is the first shot on the day, but you know when the first shot looks like this, they’re just going to get better from there….

Fall Photo Event

Filed under Sports Events and Festivals • Written by colette @ 2:32 pm

We love doing something unusual, a bathtub on a hillside, a bed in a flower garden, a couch with a view.

This month we are taking our couch out to see the sights  (before it finds its final resting place…), starting with a view of the mountains, and we are offering you an opportunity to sit, jump or lounge on our couch in the great outdoors! Got a pick up truck and an idea of where you like the couch to go? We’re game! Book the couch for a portrait session from September 19th to 30th and you can take the couch where ever you want for your shoot, or simply show up where the couch is. We will keep you posted on the couches new locations as it tours the Tumbler Ridge area. Sessions are $50 for a half hour of outdoor photography in one location. Contact us by email or by phone at 250-242-8142 to book a date for this fun filled fall event.

Bonnie and Andrew: Love Story Video

Filed under Wedding and Engagements • Written by Trent @ 6:23 pm

After much banging of heads against what we laughingly call high-speed internet in Tumbler Ridge (hint: it’s been slower than dial-up at times), we’ve finally got the wedding video ready and finally got it up. So without further adieu, here is Bonnie and Andrew’s Love Story Video.

I mentioned that Bonnie and Andrew’s wedding was very wet, and that I went through two complete changes of clothes by the time the day was done. It wasn’t just me. By the time the dancing got going, Bonnie was already in jeans and a custom-printed tee-shirt, with Andrew changing shortly after the first dance.

But I can’t emphasize how little the wet weather impacted the proceedings. The ceremony was nearly completely dry, and while we played tag with showers throughout the photos, it wasn’t until everyone was under cover that it finally opened up.

But even that’s not what I meant. No, I mean that nobody I talked to—Bonnie or Andrew or any of the wedding party or any of the guests—found the rain troubling. “They say rain on your wedding is a good sign” I kept hearing people say, always with a smile or a laugh.

Typically at this point in time, we’d be putting the video up, but the internet has been…to call it slow would be to say glaciation is sometimes sluggish. There’s been times when I’ve checked and the internet is running at sub-dialup speeds. So know that we’re working on everything, and we’ll be getting things up when they’re ready. For now, here’s a few more of my favourite photos from the day:

Hey all.

Just a quick note that Eye For Detail Photography will be doing Facebook headshots again this year at Where Art Thou? Tomorrow, September 7, in the Community Centre. We’ll be in room 1 (most likely), which is just inside the community centre door. Come in and update your Facebook profile picture, book a family session now that summer is finally arrived (ahem), or come in and ask me anything and everything you could possibly want to know about taking pictures.
