A vision for a website for Northern Brides
It happened again the other day.
I went to a Canadian Wedding Site, and clicked on the “local resources” link, only to discover the nearest “local” resource was at least 400 km away.
If I live in BC, I can find local resources for Vancouver, Vancouver Island and the Okanagan. If I live in Alberta? Calgary and Edmonton and sometimes Banff. Sites like weddingbells.ca and theknot.com offer some degree of localization for people who live in major centres, but the bride who lives in the north is all but ignored. Sites out of the states are worse, with local resources available for Toronto and that’s it.
I want to change that. But there’s no point in building a website for you, the northern bride, if you aren’t going to use it.
To this end, I am asking questions of the local brides-to-be and recently married brides. In this case, Local means from Grande Prairie, AB to Prince George, BC. Ish.
Please take the time to fill out the questionnaire below.

Why am I doing this?
Hi. I’m Trent from Eye For Detail Photography. And I’m frustrated by the lack of information there is for brides in the Dawson Creek/Fort St. John/Grande Prairie area online. More importantly, I’m frustrated by the lack of opportunities for brides to get together, either virtually or in reality, and communicate. We live in an information age, where our knowledge and experience can be shared to make everyone’s weddings better, yet those experiences are not being shared to their fullest extent. That knowledge is known only by a few.
Sites like Facebook allow us to connect with friends and families across the country and around the globe. And while we all have friends locally, it’s sometimes difficult to find other people who want to talk wedding planning 24/7.
Or at least, that’s my perspective as someone who is, quite obviously, not a bride. That’s why I put together this questionnaire. To see if what I felt was felt by other people, especially by local brides.
This questionnaire is designed to collect some data, but it isn’t designed to really get a feel for who you and what you feel. The questions reflect my own personal biases, which are deep and strongly held, but can be swayed.
If you’ve got an idea or an opinion or a vision that doesn’t fit easily into the form above, I invite you to email me, or call 250-219-8215. I want to hear your stories, your challenges. Your questions. Your feedback.
One last thing. According to Facebook, there are about 1200 brides to be in the Peace. I’d love to hear from all of you. If you have a friend who is getting married, please pass this survey on.
Thank you.
